It’s a Monday morning again. And as I sit in my pyjamas viewing the pictures from this year’s Golden Globe Awards, I feel wholly inadequate! This year our favourite women on the planet really did pull out all the stops, looking sensational and just a little bit beautiful in their gowns. Of course there were black dresses aplenty- after all black is timeless, flattering and a fail-safe. There also seemed to be a trending theme of nude fishtail gowns (see Megan Fox and Amy Adams), but what I really enjoyed was the explosion of colour on the red carpet. Here are my favourite rainbow-themed dresses from the night;
One of my top 3 favourite gowns of the night, Claire Danes looks stunning in classic red Versace with voluminous hair and sexy smoky eyes. Shes transformed from her character Carrie in Homeland whose facial expressions should have won their own Golden Globe! And moving into orange, Jessica Alba who is pretty consistent in her flawless style, looks pretty in peach in Oscar De La Renta with the most amazing fluffy clutch and Hollywood locks.
Emily Blunt chose to wear a wonderful golden/yellow floor length embellished Michael Kors gown, slitted at either side of her tiny waist and teamed with luxurious yet slightly unusual ruby and pink earrings. Bet they cost a fortune!
Nicole Richie should know a thing or two about style, what with owning her own fashion label ‘House of Marlow’. Staying true to her style which embraces pattern and colour, she wore a breath-takingly blue creation by designer Naeem Khan. I love the texture of the gown and the way it falls elegantly around her. Who needs to show skin to be sexy!? And making a lovely transition into the electric blue section of the rainbow, Modern Family star Julie Bowen competes with the big names in fashion in this flattering Halston dress.
To complete our rainbow of Golden Globe stars, Taylor Swift took time out of her busy schedule of writing about ex-boyfriends to attend the event in a rich purple dramatic gown by Donna Karan. I like the fragile spaghetti straps on the dress which contrast to the huge train at the back.
And I couldn’t fail to mention my favourite dress of the night. Even though it doesn’t fall into the rainbow category, Downton star Michelle Dockery would be awarded the style crown from myself with this amazing gold and white Grecian inspired gown by Alexandre Vauthier Couture. What a lucky girl getting to wear couture AND attend the Golden Globe awards on the same night!
Well done ladies!
