Stylish Not Just On A Saturday- Rochelle Humes

*Hoorah, I’ve finally had time to blog!! As I’m sure all you fellow bloggers know, balancing both a full-time job and a blog can be quite the challenge. Throw in organising a change of job and a new flat in a new City and you find you’re even more pressed for time! But I’m happy to say I eventually  found some free time to do what I like to do best- talk fashion!*

I heard a crazy statistic on the news today (please don’t ask me to remember the exact statistic as I heard it not long after I’d woken up very early, let’s just say it made me listen), that we all spend a HUGE part of our day trawling through various apps and websites on our phones. Whether its Twitter, Facebook, Instagram or the Daily Mail showbiz app (guilty pleasure of course), we are constantly aware of everything going on around us. This suits me fine as I get to nose on what everyone is wearing!

This week my celebrity style crush has to go to Miss Rochelle Humes of Saturdays girl band fame. She brings a whole new meaning to the term ‘yummy mummy’! At the start of the week she appeared on TV wearing a very on-trend pink PVC pencil skirt. When Lady GaGa wore her own pink PVC skirt a couple of years ago, little did she know that her ‘out-there’ look would eventually catch on for the mainstream market! Spotted on other celebs including Kim Kardashian and some of the Towie girls, these skirts are incredibly statement. Be prepared to dazzle onlookers with the shine for a start! Wear with a cropped top and heels in the evening, or teamed with cute knitwear for a more casual look. Why not invest in a stunning statement necklace too, just like Rochelle’s pretty flower one. So jealous of that girl! If you’re looking to pocket a PVC skirt off the high street, ASOS is the place to look.

And for her appearance at the Pride of Britain Awards alongside fellow Saturday band mates and husband Marvin, Rochelle took the crown for best dressed girl-band member in her simply beautiful nude embellished floor length gown. This rather ethereal dress teamed with gothic lips, a loose plait and metallic clutch looks amazing I think! Embellishment is always en vogue (see my previous blog post on embellishment at LFW 13), and the trend is set to stay with designers including Christoper Kane and Burberry using it heavily in their new collections. River Island have some lovely embellished designs- I absolutely love this dress shown below. So well done Rochelle, you can have 100 house-points for your fashion efforts this week! And I’ll give myself a pat on the back for finding some time to blog!

London Fashion Week- Crazy In Love With Embellishment

Last week it was Paris, this week it was London, now its Milan- oh what a glamorous life the fashion pack live! This week I’ve been relying on the likes of Elle editor Lorraine Candy, IT girl Alexa Chung and Model Suki Waterhouse’s instagram accounts to get my fill of all the catwalk shows as they happened (all from a front row perspective of course). I wowed at the structural creations at Peter Pilotto, cooed over the delicate dresses in Burberry and envied the models that got to wear Erdem’s wondrously white designs.

One trend that I LOVED from the London collections was embellishment. I’ve always loved a cheeky bit of embellishment- it’s an easy way to smarten up an outfit by adding a touch of glamour and sparkle. Think less TOWIE dresses embellished with sequins so that their life depends on it, more subtle yet statement. Small but mighty if you will. At Burberry, arguably the most anticipated LFW show, embellishment was seen on tops, dresses and accessories. And at Christopher Kane, the embellishment was ever so cute, featuring on shoulders and delicate straps. If it’s possible to fall in love with a jumper, then I did.

Luckily for us, embellishment is almost always available to us on the highstreet. Try Zara for embellished statement necklaces- they can be pricey but well worth the investment. Wear over some chunky knitwear. Better still, invest in some embellished knitwear- what a way to kill two birds with one stone ey! Embellishment is not restricted to one item of clothing- whether it’s a beautiful dress, a smart casual jumper or a waist belt over a neutral dress, embellishment is a sure fire way to jazz up an outfit. What will you choose to wear?

Jessica Alba Looking fashionable at New York Fashion Week (who would’ve thought?!)

The fashion cycle is turning once again, and a new season of looks has been thrust upon us- yep, its fashion week time. As Autumn creeps up on us and we begin to pack away our summer lightweights and invest in some key winter pieces, our attention is diverted to spring 2014- that’s fashion for you, always something new on the scene!

As New York Fashion Week comes to a close, and London prepares to host its own one, I thought I’d hail a lady who always looks effortlessly amazing and who certainly  didn’t disappoint at the various f-row events and parties in New York- Miss Jessica Alba!

Jessica Alba is always firmly in my top five style icons. I love her ability to look flawless, whether she is shopping in a supermarket with baby in tow, or posing on the red carpet for a Hollywood premiere. She’s a fan of timeless classic pieces but teams these with kooky daring garments-creating a rather versatile wardrobe. Her best fashion trick is to use vivid colours in everyday outfits to give them a bit of Ka-Pow. AND she’s a big fan of yellow just like me. All in all, I would like to be her please!

At New York Fashion Week Jessica wore some key AW trends. At the Charlotte Ronson show, she defied all rules that knee high socks are only for school girls.  With these she wore classic monochrome stripes, a pleated mini skirt and some very on trend deep berry lipstick. This was a fun look made all the better by an artfully draped leather jacket over the shoulders- draping is BIG this winter guys, perfect for your big oversized coats. Not necessarily winter-friendly though! 😛

Continuing her fun streak, Jessica wore a signature Phillip Lim comic book slogan sweater teamed with navy and black tapered  trousers and red stilettos. But she also displayed her versatility as a style icon, going all demure in an asymmetrically cut black dress with white accessories and sleek hair at Narciso Rodriguez. She also returned to stripes in a smart power blazer and quiff up-do at DVF.

Jess wasn’t the only well-dressed celebrity to grace NYFW. Check out these celebrities looking pretty suave. Bonus points to Olivia Palermo for wearing sunglasses on the frow during a show- so fashion darling!

And of course, I couldn’t blog about fashion week without picking some favourite looks for Spring 2014- what were your favourite shows? Can’t wait for LFW!

This Week’s Lust List At LottieBeth- Teddy Bear Coats & Cardys

If you’re a lady who loves her fashion, then chances are you have a ‘wish-list’ or a ‘lust-list’. Whatever you want to call it, it’s usually a looooong list of pretty things which you would love to get your mitts on! And the chances are a lot of these items are on the more expensive end of the fashion spectrum. It’s good to dream isn’t it!

Still on my wish-list!

This week I ventured into town (very dangerous as pay-day is not until next week) and triumphed in not only resisting buying anything, but also spotting some great AW13 trends already available for us to snap up. The look that particularly caught my eye was cute, bold and incredibly fluffy! Whether in jumper, cardigan or coat form, oversized and fluffy is the combo to go for this winter. And it’s no surprise as designers including Louis Vuitton, Carven, Topshop Unique and J JS LEE debuted their beautiful creations on the catwalk  for us to promptly add to our lust-lists.

I saw some purse-friendly bargains in H&M and Primark during my outing which I will definitely be returning for come pay-day, but here are my luxury wants! This Carven wool coat is my favourite. I love the softness from the wool which clashes with the chunky oversized shape. For £830, you would really have to love it to get it!

If you want to score serious fashion points this winter, then choose a design in princess pink, the colour of the season. You’re going to look so cute! What’s on your lust list this AW13?

Great Scot! AW13 Trend- Tartan

When it comes to my own fashion style, there are a few ‘no-go’ areas which I like to stick by. Whole neon outfits, zebra print, stripper shoes, Clark’s shoes…. and then the big one, tartan. I have managed to avoid wearing tartan for my entire life, that’s 24 years people, quite impressive! My main hesitation with tartan is that it is quite a crazy pattern to wear as ‘fashion’. When I think of it, I think of kilts (obviously) or a punk rock look.

But I think my ‘avoid tartan at all costs’ rule is soon to become void . Not that I’m impressionable or anything but tartan is soon to become everywhere this AW with it appearing all over the catwalk at the AW13 fashion weeks. Longtime lovers of tartan McQueen and Vivienne Westwood have some new acquaintances! Gucci, Moschino, Jil Sander, Stella McCartney, Celine…breath…. all showcased their modern takes on tartan this year. And they’ve managed to convert pretty much the entire fashion world where this pattern is concerned.

These fashion power houses have reinvented tartan for modern-day life- it’s not only traditional green and red designs on the scene. They’ve used pretty pastel colours and neutrals, giving the pattern a much more sleek and sophisticated feel. It also makes it easier for us to incorporate into our wardrobes- tartan is a look not known for fitting in easily with other patterns, colours and styles. It likes to stand alone!  Saying that, for those that love to make a bold statement and have that admirable brave style combined with no fashion fears, the traditional tartan is still very much available to those who want it.

And there is good news for high-street lovers. There are some amazing tartan designs which have filtered down from the catwalk to our favourite shops. Next, F&F (Tesco) and Primark all have strong AW13 designs, from pretty dresses, to checked trousers and statement winter coats.

My favourite high-street shop Zara has some beautiful tartan creations which have helped me change my opinion on tartan. I also found an absolute bargain in the Zara sale- a pair of tartan checked cropped trousers for £9.99! I’ll wear them with black heels and a crisp white shirt for smart occasions or under a chunky winter coat when winter falls upon us. What tartan piece will you invest in this AW?

My New Favourite Best Friend/ Brand- Pull & Bear

Does a shopping trip ever feel like Groundhog Day for you? Drive into town, park car, walk, turn left, head into Mango, then H&M, then Topshop, then Zara. Maybe stop for a Krispee Kreme doughnut for fuel…not maybe, always. Whilst I will NEVER bore of these high street beauties, sometimes it’s good to mix it up a little with a new brand. After all, what’s better than discovering new clothes?!

So this week I have decided to blog about a new brand that I have been loving recently- Pull & Bear. Not familiar? Spanish brand Pull & Bear is part of the Inditex family- one of the worlds’ leading fashion distributors. Pull & Bear has a sister in Zara- good genes then! P&B is currently experiencing rapid international expansion- its big in Europe and will soon be bigger here in the UK  with new stores scheduled to open (closest to me is Cabots Circus in Bristol-yaaaaay). So why should you invest your precious fashion time in this brand?

It’s very bad for your wallet, but very good for your fashion happiness when you end up immediately adding clothes to your basket upon your very first visit to a website. This is precisely what happened seconds after I typed ‘Shop Pull & Bear’ into Google. Opps. But straight away, I could see that I liked Pull & Bear’s brand identity a lot.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Like Zara, Pull & Bear has an edge on other high street brands due to its rapid response to market demands- new merchandise twice a week! This is brilliant for fashionistas who are always looking for new trends to invest in. And with two collections for men and women to choose from, you really are spoilt for choice.

There are clothes for the younger generation, and clothes for older consumers who are looking for classic styles as well as innovative ones. I love the laid-back feel of the brand, refreshing compared to some of the bold try-hard brands currently out there….I’m not naming any names! Oh….  and did I also mention the clothes are amazingly cheap?! Don’t panic, they won’t dissolve in the middle of the street on your second wear, P&B pride themselves on fashion, price and quality.

So why not take a look at Pull & Bear’s website today and see if anything takes your fancy? My favourite pieces are shown below. I hate to be a bad influence on your funds but it’s just got to be done.  It’s time to welcome a new brand into the high street family! Hurrah!

My Favourite Celebrity Fashion Looks From This Week

In the morning before I go to work, I have a strict regime; get up, get dressed, make breakfast, read the showbiz section of the daily mail…

I get a lot of gratification out of going on the Daily Mail app, not only because I like to spot the awful spelling and grammatical errors on the pieces, and also read the amusing comments that people leave, but mainly to keep up to date with what the celebrities are wearing that week! And I think a lot of you ladies have a similar view towards this website- main procrastinator at work maybe??

This week I have picked three of my favourite looks from the celeb ladies. Yes, I know it’s only Wednesday, but these celebs are on a mission! Although the celebrities wearing them are rich beyond their wildest dreams, I think the looks can easily be copied using high street buys.

Kate Middleton

Of course I couldn’t start with anybody else! Yesterday evening, the nation/world waited on tenterhooks to catch a glimpse of our new royal prince. When Kate and Will emerged with a beautiful little baby in swaddle, you could be forgiven for also equally wowing at Kate and how amazing she looked in her blue polka dot Jenny Packham dress!

Kate has worn Jenny Packham many a time- I thought she looked the definition of princess in her long teal gown which she wore to an Olympic ceremony last year. Kate’s elegant style can be very literal at times- I remember when she wore a maple leaf shaped fascinator by Sylvia Fletcher for her Canada visit and she and Will both wore soft baby blue for the presentation of their newborn.

There is absolutely no doubt that the dress she wore yesterday will have flown off the shelves within minutes. Some people are nutters! Remember though, Kate is also a fan of high street dresses, so keep your eyes peeled for future outfits.

Rachel Bilson

There was a time when I was around the 17 years age mark that I had a small obsession with Rachel Bilson. Watching the OC I used to wish I could have her wardrobe and her (fictional) life. Although her real life is nothing to scoff at! She went slightly off the radar in the UK at least after OC fame, but when I saw this picture of her at the To Do list premiere this week, she skyrocketed back up into my best-dressed list!

The dress in question is a stunning Oscar De La Renta Resort 2014 number. I absolutely love the cobalt colour with the delicate flowers that trickle down the dress. And the cut and shape of the dress is what makes it so unique. The tight skirt with the garment fanning out on her hipline is very pretty. Teamed with simple hair and black accessories including Casadei shoes, I think she looks stunning. Top marks Rachel!

Olivia Palermo

Olivia Palermo’s style makes me smile. She’s so versatile which is what I strive to be. One day, she will look the picture of elegance in a billowing dress. The next day it’s time to be smart in an impossibly expensive androgynous tailored jacket and sky-scraper heels. And she’s adventurous, never afraid to take a risk either by wearing bold patterns, unusual cuts or mixing and clashing things.

This is precisely what she’s done for her New York outing this week. Where some would achieve the ‘crazy bag lady’ look by mixing and matching, she achieves the ‘Vogue model during a photo shoot’ look. I can see sixties, sport luxe, animal print and graphic prints all in one look, and it looks so so fashionable! The cute sixties mini-dress which she’s teamed with a huge statement necklace, leopard print pumps, an open knitwear netted cardy and of course, a designer handbag in rich red are all key looks from this fashion season.

So I have my looks for this week, now comes the task of finding some high street buys so that I can copy them! I think it may be wishful thinking to stumble across a De La Renta dress in the clearance sale after all….
